Health Insurance Waiting Period Calculator

Figure out exactly when a health insurance waiting period ends - enter your policy's coverage start date and the waiting period length, and see the date and days remaining.

If your policy has been renewed continuously, use the date you first took it - not your most recent renewal date. Renewing doesn't reset a waiting period you've already served.

This checks one waiting period at a time. Coversfolio tracks every waiting period across all your policies automatically, and flags it the moment a condition becomes claimable.

The three types of waiting periods, explained

Initial waiting period - usually 30 days Covers almost everything except accidental injuries, which are payable from day one. This is the shortest, most universal waiting period and applies to nearly all new health policies in India.
Pre-existing disease (PED) waiting period - commonly 2 to 4 years Applies to any condition you already had before buying the policy - diabetes, hypertension, thyroid conditions, and similar. This is measured from when your continuous coverage began, not each renewal.
Specific illness/procedure waiting period - commonly 1 to 2 years Applies to a named list of conditions and procedures - cataract, hernia, joint replacement, and similar - regardless of whether you had them before buying the policy.

A few things worth knowing

Check your own policy document for the exact numbers. This calculator uses common industry figures, but your specific policy could differ - the wording in your own policy document (or Customer Information Sheet) is the final word.

Accidental injuries have no waiting period under IRDAI rules, regardless of when the policy was bought.

Renewing your policy does not reset a waiting period that's already been served, as long as coverage has been continuous without a break.
